Scheffler, Hossler and Stallings are tied at the top after second round at Colonial

FORT WORTH, Texas — This has been a good week in North Texas for Scott Stallings, first qualifying for the U.S. Open that will be played less than an hour from where he was born and now sharing the lead at Colonial with top-ranked Scottie Scheffler and Beau Hossler.
Stallings shot a 6-under 64 without a bogey on a relatively calm Friday at Hogan's Alley. That put the Massachusetts-born and 206th-ranked player in the world at 9-under 131 along with with Dallas-area resident Scheffler and former University of Texas player Hossler, who both had bogey-free 65s.
Scheffler, in one of the last groups of the day after Stallings and Hossler played in the morning wave, tied them with a 14-foot birdie putt at the par-4 17th and saved par at No. 18 after his final drive went left into the rough. Read more

Top-ranked Masters champion Scottie Scheffler fired a five-under par 65 to keep a share of the lead after Friday's second round of the US PGA Charles Schwab Challenge.
Scheffler, chasing his fifth victory of the year, stood alongside fellow Americans Beau Hossler and Scott Stallings on nine-under 131 after 36 holes at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
After winning his first US PGA title at Phoenix in February, Scheffler won at Bay Hill and captured the WGC Match Play title in March then won his first major title at the Masters in April to overtake Spain's Jon Rahm as world number one. Read more

Major winners Darren Clarke, Patrick Reed and Scottie Scheffler confessed their golfing problems were put very much in perspective by this week's school shooting massacre in Texas.
Clarke opened with a three-under 68 to lie four shots off the pace alongside Pádraig Harrington in the KitchenAid Senior PGA in Michigan as reigning Masters champion Scheffler and 2018 champion Reed carded four-under 66s to share the lead with Webb Simpson, Harold Varner III, Chris Kirk, Nick Taylor, Cam Davis and Beau Hossler in the Charles Schwab Challenge where PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas shot 71.
All wore black ribbons and were deeply affected by the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, earlier this week, where 19 children and two teachers were killed by a lone gunman. Read more
